What a crazy story this is! I have heard this a lot lately, especially since I’ve been watching some weight loss shows. “These trainers have no idea what its like to be me, to be overweight, to be addicted to food.” For the most part, they’re right.
I know what its like to be addicted to coffee and other foods. Sugary, fatty, and salty foods were part of my daily diet growing up. But, when you are young you have a different metabolism than you do as you get older and food affects you differently.
Just because you have eaten something all your life doesn’t mean its okay.
Anyway, a friend of mine forwarded me an article about a personal trainer, Drew Manning, who is gaining weight PURPOSELY. He really does want to feel what it’s like to be overweight. So far he’s gained 70 pounds in five months. THAT’S INSANE and he has four more weeks to go. He’s already experiencing addiction to sugary foods and to soda. He has also experience elevated blood pressure and withdrawal symptoms when he doesn’t eat certain foods.
He is writing about his weight gain and eventually weight loss journey on Fit2Fat2Fit. His goal is to inspire people to get fit and to show others struggling with food addictions, weight related health issues and etc, that it is possible to lose weight and get off all those meds. That’s the most important part, if you lose the weight, you will regain mobility and your health. Diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure can all be “cured” and managed with a change in your diet and an increase in exercise.
I will continue following Drew’s journey because it’s pretty insane. Hope you do too.
